About: Michael Burge OAM has lived and worked in Camberwell; and in the Gardiner Ward, since 1994. Following teaching electronics, media and psychology, Michael continues in private practice psychology involving treatment, organizational coaching and training courses. He has also participated in extensive, numerous, voluntary community work. These included membership of the inaugural educational, multicultural task force and the Sir Edward Dunlop Medical Research Foundation.
Michael has consulted for many years in occupational health & safety issues. From his work in social psychology, Michael has been actively promoting social justice, gender equity, resolving work place bullying, discrimination and assisting community healing after catastrophic events. He has published and promotes these issues in the media, on TV & Radio. Michael has seen firsthand how quality amenities or lack thereof, effect people’s lives, well being and connectedness, within communities.
Michael has a particular interest in nurturing physical activity as a means to encourage wellbeing and connection within the community and within family structures, and has a long held association and participation with golf, dance and gardening. Michael also has a strong interest in the patronage of creative innovation, including the arts, fashion design and craft makers, initiating a recent launch of an eBook series, presenting new ways of working creatively with yarn, together with his partner Bonnie.
Michael has particular sensitivity to environmental issues and has been proactive in former roles. He's had extensive governance experience; and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course; and is a Fellow and recent past Board Director of the Australian Psychological Society.
In the 2010 Australia day Honours, Michael was awarded an OAM for his services to psychology and the community of Australia.
